A groundbreaking chapter in sports history took place Saturday, March 16, as the Kansas City Current opened a revolutionary venue, CPKC Stadium, with a 5-4 win over Portland in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
Thanks to a joint effort from Kansas City firms, JE Dunn Construction and Monarch Build, this game-changing $120 million project – the first stadium in the world purpose-built for a women’s professional sports team – is poised to reshape the global landscape of women’s sports.
Nestled on 7.1 acres along the Missouri River, it serves as the focal point of Berkley Riverfront Park – a key element of Port KC’s innovative riverfront development project. This solidifies its pivotal role in shaping the future landscape of the city.
The 11,500-capacity stadium features pitch-side seats, a club, luxurious suites, a supporter section with safe standing rails, community plaza areas and a high-tech pitch with heating and cooling. It’s a soccer paradise where every detail showcases a commitment to fans and athletes alike.
