U.S. Department of Energy Campus Laboratory Linear Accelerator MEP Remodel Project included the modification of the existing infrastructure within the LINAC Housing and Klystron Gallery to be able to support the installation and operation of a new accelerator system within the existing structures. Structural modifications of the existing structures were required to install the new accelerator and peripherals, provide a controlled access facility and operate the new accelerator in a safe manner. The accelerator is comprised of two structures; the accelerator housing which is a 10-foot-high x11-foot-wide concrete-lined tunnel; and a support building at the surface above the tunnel. The total length of this project includes 1000 meters (approximately 3,230 linear feet) of existing accelerator. Facilities & Operations construction effort for Heat Exchanger 02 (Hx-02) included removal, demolition and new construction efforts to replace the existing Hx-02 system within an existing structure, with two new identical and separate cooling systems. This scope of work involved new structural work and replacement of mechanical and electrical systems within the existing footprint of the current physical facilities. Sections of the existing structure and infrastructure systems were reused. The major elements of the Work include but are not limited to the following: Architectural/Structural; Mechanical; Electrical and Controls for the major demolition and re-construction of the existing Hx-02, which supplies LCW cooling water to the major Accelerator Electron Beamline Dumps (EBD) and Beam Switch Yard Dump (BSY).
