NBKC Bank’s headquarters isn’t just a workspace. The offices on Ward Parkway are meant to be a magnet.
There’s an outdoor patio, complete with water feature; an on-site gym with trainer; a large meeting space where the bank regularly hosted speakers; and warm, open spaces where employees can collaborate. It’s all in line with NBKC’s efforts to attract and keep talented people and to give them the freedom to innovate.
It’s all part of the bank’s culture.
But Covid-19 forced NBKC and many other businesses to have most employees work from home — away from the environments, perks and gatherings that help build culture.
The Kansas City Business Journal asked officials at four of our 2019 Best Places to Work honorees about how they’ve tried to maintain company culture during the pandemic and how they’re continuing to adapt as they either reopen offices or prepare to.
