During JE Dunn’s plan review of the Mid America Heart Institute project for Saint Luke’s Health System, our project team noticed a curtain wall gasket system that affected our sequence of work. Based on our initial analysis, the curtain wall would need to be installed before the brick veneer went up. This presented problems from the stand point of temporarily protecting the glass and frames from the masonry work. To better understand the problem we decided to model the areas of curtain wall that was adjacent to brick veneer. Rather than modeling the details shown in the architectural plans we elected to create a model based on the supplier’s shop drawings. The shop drawings contained a much greater level of detail and highlighted incompatibilities between systems.
