Peace Arch Port of Entry

Blaine, Washington

The new General Services Administration Peace Arch U.S. Port of Entry project involves the construction of 35,000-sf of new port building and 89,000-sf of vehicular inspection, including 10 inbound primary inspection lanes and 40 secondary inspection parking spaces. The construction site is approximately 10 acres and surrounded by Semiahmoo Bay to the west and the symbolic Peace Arch State Park and the Canadian border to the north. The new facility and vehicle inspections will support increased security requirements implemented after the events of September 11th, 2001, while improving the quality and safety standards of staff employees. The project is designed to achieve LEED® Silver certification upon completion in November of 2010.

Unique Features:

The design is comprised of 4 basic elements:

  • A metallic panel and glass curtain wall clad conventional two-story rectangular building which will house the public and administrative offices of Customs and Border Protection.

  • Primary Vehicle Inspection consisting of 10 individual processing booths with a single steel roof structure.

  • Secondary Inspections including 40 parking spaces covered by a steel roof structure.

  • New I-5 northbound bridge and design build highway work carrying traffic over the West end of the new port building and allowing vehicular traffic for secondary inspections to flow beneath.

  • The new Port of Entry is being constructed while maintaining the existing structure and flow of traffic.
