Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center

Spotsylvania, Virginia

Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center is a 278,712 SF, five-story, 140-bed, acute care replacement hospital. It is being constructed on a 76-acre campus with 804 surface parking spaces.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is being used for 3D coordination and clash detection of the MEP systems. We are modeling the concrete, steel, and architectural systems and our MEP subcontractors are modeling their respective systems.

The use of web-conferencing takes the technology of this project's management to a new level. Through GoTo Meeting, our BIM engineer in Denver brings together all the updated models, runs the collision checks, and then reviews them with the subcontractors and the on-site project team llive over the internet in NavisWorks. This saves tremendously on travel related expenses for everyone, and drives a higher level of coordination and quality in the completed product.

We are also doing extensive review and 3D modeling of the buildings exterior skin systems. This building is fairly large and has a number of complicated skin assemblies. BIM will drive the coordination with the respective subcontractors, resolve constructability and sequencing issues, and is an integral part of JE Dunn's Dunn-Right quality program.
