UNM Children's Hospital and Critical Care Pavilion

Albuquerque, New Mexico

JE Dunn, in association with a local New Mexico contractor, is currently constructing a new $126,800,000 Children's Hospital for the University of New Mexico. The six-story Barbara and Bill Richardson pavilion contains 490,270 SF. The building topped out in March 2006 and is on schedule for completion in November, 2007, with occupancy of portions of the building beginning in March of 2007.

The complex is designed for present and future medical technology and major diagnostic and treatment services with an emphasis on contemporary "healing" patient environments.

Major project elements include:

  • Pediatric ER / Intensive Care Unit, 20 beds

  • Pediatric Acute Unit, 34 beds

  • Pediatric Oncology Unit, 20 beds

  • Pediatric Surgery Suite, 4 OR suites

  • Carrie Tingley Hospital, 15 beds, providing coordinated healthcare to children and adolescents with complex musculoskeletal and orthopedic conditions, rehabilitation needs, developmental issues, and long-term physical disabilities.

  • Neonatal Unit, 52 beds

  • Child Life Center

Maternity Center with:

  • Labor & Delivery, 15 rooms (12 LDRs, 3 ORs)

  • High Risk Antepartum, 15 rooms

  • OB Triage, 6 suites

  • Postpartum, 24 rooms

  • Newborn Nursery, 39 bassinets

Enhanced security systems are also included. Support areas will include a pharmacy, gift shop, medication room, food court, and respiratory therapy. The project will also include an Adult Critical Care Center.

Total development cost is $233 million, including site work, design costs, new plant, equipment, parking garage, and bond costs.
