The Heights at Terwilliger Plaza
Portland, Oregon
Terwilliger Plaza, a not-for-profit retirement community in downtown Portland, Oregon, has once again commissioned JE Dunn to build an addition to their assisted living facility. The new 140,000-sf wing will add 48 two-bedroom units, an exercise pool, a therapy pool, a fitness room, a bistro, and a lounge to the complex. Perched on the hill behind the complex's other structures, The Heights will be similar in character to the original 1962 tower, with angular lines and expansive use of glass. An enclosed skybridge will connection the new building to the existing facilities.
Unique features:
- The Heights will be one of the most energy efficient senior housing projects in the Pacific Northwest. Overall, it will use an estimated 20-25% less energy than similar buildings. Sustainable features include energy-saving elevators, a centralized high-efficiency heating and cooling plant, low voltage lighting, and a heat recovery system for the indoor pools, which captures heat that would otherwise be lost in the ventilation cycle.
