Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts

Kansas City, Missouri

A landmark project for Kansas City, the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts blends aesthetics and functionality for performance art. Constructed of structural steel, concrete, and glass, this spectacular building features a transparent lobby, which provides a 4-story open atrium for visitors.

The 286,031 SF structure offers three separate halls for various events. The largest of the three seats 1,800 visitors for opera, ballet, and theater events. The second, but equally impressive, hall seats 1,600 visitors for musical concerts. The third and final venue serves as a multi-use area. This "Celebration Hall" seats 400 visitors and serves as a more intimate stage for parties, receptions, meetings, educational meetings, and guest speakers. Parking for 1,024 vehicles is provided via a 4-level structure situation down the south hillside of the Performing Arts Center.

A unique aspect of the construction phase is that the interior finishes will take up to one year to complete due to the intricate nature of these components.
