Kansas City, Missouri

720,000 SF adaptive reuse project at Kansas City's Union Station. Historically accurate exterior and interior restoration of the Headhouse, Grand Hall and North Waiting room comprised the first phase. With the completion of Science City, Kansas City's first science/technology museum, the landmark treasure opened with acclaim providing a place where "our future meets the past."


Unique features

  • Cornerstone 2000 Award from the Economic Development Council of Kansas City for revitalization and the American Public Works Association's 2000 Project of the Year for Historic Restoration/Preservation
  • Molds of the original plaster work were made on site and the larger pieces were poured and assembled in Baltimore using a material more sturdy and lightweight than plaster
  • Pedestrian walkway linking Union Station to Crown Center mixed use development
