Nelson-Atkins Parking Structure

New 2-level, below-grade, 457-car garage with a precast "wave" effect and 34 recessed circular glass "moon" skylights. One Sun/34 Moons sculpture is located on the reflecting pool above the garage.
Unique features
- 2-story underground parking garage with custom-formed and designed precast "wave T's". Custom T's create an undulating, wave-like appearance on the ceiling of the parking area. Each T is 60' long, 12' wide, and between 89,000 and 92,000 pounds
- Top of structure is fully landscaped, including granite-paved plaza area and reflecting pool
- Reflecting pool contains 34 lenses in the bottom of the pool that allow light down into the upper level of the parking garage
- Custom-designed stainless-steel handrails and corten steel stairwell shaft containment panels
- All conduit for power, lighting, and devices concealed and poured into the concrete
- Plaza drive capable of supporting heavy visitor traffic, including tour buses and fire trucks
