Fort Osage Education Center
Sibley, Missouri
Located on the site of reconstructed 1812 Fort Osage, this new education center is designed to educate the general public on the rich history, significance, and heritage of the fort, a place that has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1961. The 2-story, 15,000 SF center will allow the county to offer programs year-round and will regularly host Jackson County fourth graders, who will visit the building as part of their curriculum. It will include a primary museum area of Lewis and Clark artifacts, a temporary exhibit area, a classroom, a multimedia auditorium, and a storage and conservation area.
This building is designed to be a model sustainable facility with a green roof, geothermal heating and cooling, passive solar heating, and natural ventilation. The structure is architectural concrete. It is registered to obtain a LEED® Platinum Rating.
