Emporia, Kansas
New 98,343 SF, 3-story courthouse with detention cells and a tunnel to the existing jail housing approximately 150. The project included demolition of five existing buildings and major utility relocation. Four high-level finish courtrooms, commissioner's and judge's chambers, and multiple office finishes were constructed.
Unique features
- 9,800 SF of terrazzo flooring in all public corridors
- 400 individual pieces of book-matched wood paneling in the 4 courtrooms and 1 hearing room
- State of the Art AV systems
- Judge's benches constructed of bullet-resistant drywall.
- Tunnel constructed from the existing Sheriff's Department and jail through a secure corridor and two secure elevators to holding cells on the courthouse floor.
