Ground Run-Up Enclosure at the Portland International Airport
Portland, Oregon
The ground run-up enclosure at the Portland International Airport is a 42,230 SF structure in Portland, Oregon designed as a place to test jet engines. The structure is a 206-foot-wide by 250-foot-long, galvanized steel cage with 55-foot high walls was built large enough to hold a MD-11 jumbo jet.
Unique features:
- Only the third such noise-reducing facility built in the United States.
- The tall 3-sided enclosure has decreased aircraft engine test noise levels to as little as 55 decibels, approximately the sound of two people talking with each other three feet apart.
