Bent County Detention Facility
Las Animas, Colorado
98,000 SF addition and renovation. The medium-level correctional facility houses 352 male inmates and was completed nine weeks ahead of schedule; a result of creative solutions devised by the project management team. The project consisted of 5 buildings with precast masonry walls & cast-in-place foundations, a gym with Butler roofing (other buildings have single ply membrane roofs), razorwire security fencing, and a 250,000 gallon water tank.
Unique Features:
- All work was completed while the facility remained fully operational and fully secure, requiring a tremendous amount of planning and coordination.
- Kitchen remodel required the facility remained fully operational throughout construction. JE Dunn rented two kitchen trailers to allow the kitchen staff to prepare meals for the inmates throughout the duration of the kitchen remodel.
