Located on the site of historic Fort Osage, this center is designed to educate the general public on the rich history, significance and heritage of Ft. Osage, a location that has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1962.
The center allows the County to offer programs year-round and regularly hosts Jackson County fourth graders who visit the building as part of their curriculum.
The building was designed to be a model of environmental consciousness in a built structure. Among other sustainable features, the facility includes a green roof, radiant heating and cooling, passive solar heating, and natural ventilation. It was designed and constructed to LEED Gold standards.
