Starlight Theatre Cohen Stagehouse
Kansas City, MO
Client: Starlight Theatre Association
Architect: HNTB Companies
Size: 21,000 SF
Starlight Theatre, built in 1950, is a staple of Kansas City's performing arts community as well as being a destination for summer-time outdoor family entertainment. In 2000, JE Dunn constructed a new 10-story stagehouse with a new orchestra pit, trap floor system, and 72 line sets. This new facility utilized the original lighting and sound towers, but integrated new sound reinforcement and lighting control equipment.
The north facade incorporates brick veneer, painted steel structure, and standing seam copper roofing. The stagehouse is air conditioned to battle summer temperatures and heated in the winter for off-season events.
