The Kit Carson Correctional Facility was initially completed in 1998. The 222,175 SF medium security facility had a design capacity of 768 beds.
The facility provides all operational and support areas under one roof. Enclosed secure corridors connect all building areas. Each housing unit consists of two levels surrounding a central dayroom, inmate shower area and inmate telephones.
In 2007, JE Dunn returned to complete a 113,121 SF, 720-bed expansion to the facility. Included in the expansion was related support space, a new partially covered recreation area and vocational/educational space. Expansion and modification of the perimeter fence, patrol road, and security lighting was included.
