Commerce Trust Building
Kansas City, MO
Client: Tower Properties
Architect: Gastinger Walker Harden Associates
Size: 317,000 SF
Completion: 2002

JE Dunn Construction completed the renovation of the historic 1907 Commerce Trust Building in downtown Kansas City. As construction manager, JE Dunn worked hand-in-hand with the architect to deliver an updated facility that maintained the integrity of the original design and construction while modernizing the building to mandated standards.

At 15 floors, the building was fully modernized while maintaining a historically accurate representation of Commerce Trust's original turn-of-the-century character. The fifth floor houses a computer center for operations with fully redundant and backup power.

All mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems were removed and replaced. New chillers, air handling units, rooftop units and cooling towers supply carefully zoned, locally controllable HVAC. Office lighting is high-efficiency, controlled by sensors and multiple switching.  Original turn-of-the-century fixtures were restored and modernized throughout the public spaces, historic offices and meeting rooms.
