Data Center Expansion Phase II
., CA
Client: Quality Investment Properties
Architect: CH2M Hill
Size: 70,000 SF
Completion: July 2011

JE Dunn completed Phase I of a 70,000 SF build-out of an existing office building into a co-location data center. This included the installation of 12,000 SF of 30" tall raised access floor at 150 wft. The project included four 750kVA Liebert UPS Modules in an Isolated Redundant configuration, three 2000 KW diesel generators, ten 300 kVA PDU's (power distribution units), 1000 tons of cooling capacity and 18 55 ton CRAC units.

Our client relied on JE Dunn to design and construct this project in less than five months. Our client had an agreement with a high profile, overseas client and the completion date was non-negotiable. The design was completed and permitted in less than three months. Construction was completed in two months.

Due to the aggressive, fast-tracked nature of the project, JE Dunn utilized its in-house Building Information Modeling team to meet the schedule. Both the interior and exterior of the buliding were laser scanned, collecting over six million points of data. This "as-built" information was loaded into the REVIT model where all MEP subcontractors modeled their designs. Underground conduit, chilled water piping, chiller plant piping, ductwork, and pre-action fire sprinkler piping were fabricated. Complete "clash-detection" was performed to eliminate re-work in the field.
