JE Dunn Construction's corporate headquarters located in Kansas City, Missouri is a 6-level building bordering the Ilus W. Davis Civic Mall anchoring the East Village redevelopment project.  The building consolidated operations previously spread over five downtown locations and can accomodate 550 employees. An adjacent parking structure provides space for 780 vehicles.

Designed by 360 Architecture and BNIM Architecture, the design-build project addressed goals including:

  • targeting LEED Gold certification

  • creating a workplace experience supporting employee recruitment and retention

  • office flexibility, efficiency and economy

  • commitment to community

  • showcase building crafts, sustainability and self-performance

In 2010, the building successfully achieved LEED Gold certification having met a number of criteria including:

  • 95 percent of construction waste was diverted from landfill, reused or recycled

  • 5,400 tons of asphalt that had covered the site was removed, crushed or saved for use as fill on other projects

  • energy-efficient HVAC systems were installed

  • water conservation: the facility uses 54 percent less water than a typical office building

  • reclaimed materials: the flooring includes wood reclaimed from old barns in south central Missouri

  • ample daylighting: no workspace is more than 22.5 feet from a window. Most have outdoor views.

  • stormwater is collected and used for landscape irrigation

Additionally, Building Information Modeling (BIM) was implemented throughout the project. It was used to assist in cost-estimating, layout, quality control, self-performance, 4D planning and clash detection.
