JE Dunn Construction first worked for the North Kansas City School District in 1971. Since that time, JE Dunn has completed more than $106 million in construction management services for the District.
The Staley High School and adjacent activity center was built on a 136-acre site. The high school is a 2-story building serving 1,500 students grades 9-12. It is comprised of four distinct areas: a physical education/gym wing; fine and practical arts wing; great hall/commons, library/media center and administrative complex; and the instructional wing. The high school portion of the project achieved LEED Silver certification in August 2008, the first K-12 educational facility in the state of Missouri to earn such designation.
Special emphasis was placed on flexibility of spaces, high indoor environmental quality through equipment design and materials selection, and water efficiency. In keeping with sustainable construction goals, JE Dunn implemented highly successful construction waste management and indoor air quality management plans.
Outdoor activity areas include competition football and soccer fields; competition natural turf baseball and softball fields; varsity and junior varsity tracks; two practice fields each for football, soccer, baseball and softball; and six support buildings. The District Activity Center's six support buildings consist of soccer and football press boxes, concessions, restrooms, storage, team meeting space and bus maintenance.
