Alexandria, LA
Client: CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital
Architect: WHR Architects
Size: 186,000 SF
Completion: 2009
CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, Louisiana is a 5-story hospital addition incorporating a women's and children's hospital which includes outpatient women's sevices, a birthing suite, NICU, and pediatrics. A 26-bed emergency department includes dedicated rooms for trauma and cardiac cases and six observation beds. Seven adjacent minor-care beds enhance fast-track services for minor emergencies.
The CHRISTUS project also included an addition of a boiler, a chiller, a cooling tower, relocation of 2 KVA generators and the addition of a new 1000 KVA generator. These were tied into the existing system to add redundancy. Additionally, two domestic hot water flash water heaters were added along with heating water flash steam water heaters. The central plant supports a 241-bed hospital.
Completed on time and within budget, the additions strengthened the hospital's position in the market as a healthcare leader in Central Louisiana. The design reflects the hospital's commitment to compassionate healthcare in a welcoming and healing environment. Incorporation of natural light and easy access to a dedicated healing garden for patients, family, and staff was a primary consideration.
