DENVER - JE Dunn Construction, a commercial general contractor with offices in Denver and Colorado Springs, recently celebrated the topping out of SugarCube, a 10-story, mixed-use building neighboring Market Street Station in downtown Denver (www.sugarcubebuilding.com).

The 195,405-square-foot project is located at 16th and Blake Street and will include retail on the street level, three levels of office space and six levels of luxury apartments. The 37 apartment units will range in size from 812- to 2,150-square-feet with one or two bedrooms. The building also will feature a three-level, below-grade parking structure with 136 spaces. The project is scheduled for completion June of 2008.

Nearly 200 people attended the topping out event including the developer Urban Villages Inc., Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg Architects, and JE Dunn Construction. The SugarCube project has encompassed more than 348 days of construction and approximately 139,000 man-hours from groundbreaking in 2006 to reach this topping out milestone. The tradition of "topping out" a building refers to the placing of the last, uppermost piece of structural steel.

"While the limited site and high traffic location of the SugarCube Building has offered a number of challenges, it also lends to a sense of community involvement as daily downtown commuters get to experience every milestone along with the project team," said Pat Smith, senior project manager for JE Dunn.

Urban Villages, Inc. the developer of SugarCube focuses on high density, mixed-use projects that are carefully designed and constructed to last for generations. The Denver based real estate firm has developed a national reputation for providing unsurpassed dedication to quality and understands the important role development plays in the human habitat and built environment.

JE Dunn has been a leader in multi-unit residential and mixed-use construction with the recent completions of the award-winning Residences at Belmar Plaza in Lakewood and Glass House in Denver. In addition to SugarCube, JE Dunn's current mixed-use and multi-unit residential projects include Peloton in Boulder and Spire in Downtown Denver.
